programming in a safe and confidential environment.
Catholic Family Services Peel
Dufferin
$310,400 over one year to retrofit a Brampton building as a
single stop for families and individuals impacted by violence and abuse. The
Centre will offer counselling in 12 languages, interpretation services in 100
languages, newcomer assistance and specialized programs serving Peel Region's
South Asian communities.
Dejinta Beesha (Somali Multi Service
Centre)
$409,100 over one year to build designated office and
programming space for organizations serving Somali and other East African
communities, as well as a range of newcomer communities, in the Rexdale area in
Toronto.
J. H. Chinese Professionals Association of
Canada
$324,200 over one year to provide additional classroom and
counseling space for this Toronto-based organization in response to the growing
needs of newcomer professionals seeking certification in their chosen
occupation.
Northern Lights Educational
Services
$182,100* over
one year to carry-out renovations and energy efficiencies to this community
cultural space in west end Ottawa serving a number of newcomer communities,
including those of Turkish origin. The renovations will make the space fully
accessible and increase the ability to offer such services as language and job
search training.
Parya Trillium Foundation
$439,200
over one year to retrofit this organization's Markham building This office
building will be transformed into an energy-efficient community centre hosting
educational, social, cultural, artistic and recreational activities for youth,
women, newcomers and seniors for York Region's Farsi-speaking community and the
community at large.
Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health
Centre
$324,000 over one year to renovate space at this West End
Ottawa organization to allow enhanced services for culturally-diverse
communities, including Somali, Haitian and Arab-speaking populations. The
renovations will also increase access for people with physical disabilities and
provide more secure space for after-hours programming.
Sampradaya Dance
Creations
$233,800 over one year to expand the performance and
training spaces of this important South Asian dance company in order to increase
opportunities for emerging and mature dance and performance artists to work
together in Halton-Peel.
Sanatan Mandir Cultural
Centre
$500,000 over one year to build a 10,000 square foot addition
to this Markham cultural centre serving the Hindu and broader Indian community
of the Greater Toronto Area. The space will include classrooms for youth and
seniors, youth/seniors drop-in centre, library, computer labs, indoor gymnasium
and kitchen facilities.
The Church of Virgin Mary and Saint
Athanasius
$500,000 over one year to build a seniors recreation and
wellness centre for the Arabic-speaking community in the Greater Toronto Area
and Dufferin County as well as the broader Dufferin seniors community. The
centre will be an addition to an existing retreat centre in
Orangeville.
Welland Heritage Council & Multicultural
Centre
$200,000 over two years to renovate an existing structure to
meet building codes and provide a more welcoming, accessible, safe facility
serving newcomers to the Niagara region.
*$182,100 represents the
approved grant amount for Northern Lights. Subsequent to approval, the scope of
the initiative was reduced, thereby lowering the overall project cost. As a
result, the grant amount was scaled back to $109,600.
