OTF Grantee Perception Survey

The mission of the Ontario Trillium Foundation is to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario. With a funding budget of about $120 million every year, it is our responsibility to ensure that our granting is having a positive impact on the communities we serve. We asked the Centre for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) to find out how grantees and applicants perceive our granting in the following areas:

  • Quality of interactions
  • Clarity of communication of goals and strategies
  • Impact on fields, local communities and geographies

Read the research brief for a summary of the key findings (pdf) drawn from the Grantee Perception Report (GPR) and the Applicant Perception Report (APR).

As a result of the survey results:

  • We have actively sought ways to reduce the administrative burden on applicants and grantees and to streamline the application and reporting process
  • We can devote more time to providing non-monetary assistance such as convening knowledge-sharing events, because of the streamlined application process
  • We have increased the representation of community populations on our Grant Review Teams
  • We are continually seeking ways to improve the way we communicate and engage with our grantees

The results of CEP Grantee Perception Surveys provided some insights into the way that our grantees and applicants perceive us and how we compare with other Foundations in Canada and abroad.

These results give us an opportunity to consider how we can improve the way we communicate and interact with grantees and applicants and the type of non-monetary support that we provide to not-for-profits in Ontario.

We will use the results from the survey to improve the way we relate with grantees and applicants and to strengthen the support that we provide to the not-for-profit sector.
