Ontario's Aboriginal Communities:
Learnings and Opportunities

In 2005, we researched the funding needs of Aboriginal communities and organizations in Ontario. The study included:
  • A literature scan
  • Interviews with successful and unsuccessful applicants, key informants, OTF staff and volunteers, and government officials
An OTF Project Advisory Committee was also set up, with leadership from Board members Donna Gilhooly and Shirley Cheechoo.

Follow-Up Research

Building on these initial findings, a second phase of the research included:
  • Sessions to develop an internal strategy
  • Consultations with an Aboriginal reference group made up of Grant Review Team members
  • A project to examine aspects of relationship building with Aboriginal communities and organizations to ensure access to our grants
